ABOUT US

Sister Midnight is an upcoming community-owned music venue and radio station based in Catford. We’re on a mission to elevate artists around Lewisham and become a creative hub for everyone across SE London.

Everything we do is driven by our belief in the power of music to uplift, unite and affect positive change. By working at a grassroots level and always democratically, we hope to make this a space for belonging, solidarity and experimentation.

OUR
MANIFESTO

OUR VALUES

South East London has a long legacy of producing exceptional creative talent, and we think that our area deserves to have equivalently exceptional cultural spaces that can continue to nurture and platform talent.

As a community owned & led cultural organisation, we believe we are uniquely positioned to deliver the kind of cultural space that Lewisham needs; accessible, inclusive and shaped by local people.

We want our venue to be a hub of creative and social activity, supporting artistic development and community well-being, and establishing ourselves as an important cultural institute in South London.

OUR
OBJECTIVES

We want our work to have far-reaching impacts for our wider community and beyond. Some of the Key Objectives that we’re working towards include:

Cultural Aims

  • Champion local music by giving emerging artists from Lewisham and South East London opportunities to perform, grow, and be heard.

  • Make live music more accessible by creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where more people feel able to take part — on stage and in the audience.

  • Build a creative hub where musicians, artists, organisers, and audiences can connect, share ideas, and collaborate.

Community Aims

  • Bring people together by creating a space that feels open and welcoming, helping to reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections.

  • Put our community at the centre of what we do, giving members and local people real opportunities to shape our direction and decisions.

  • Support skills and opportunities locally through volunteering, work placements, and training that build confidence, experience, and employability.

  • Strengthen the local economy by working closely with other Lewisham-based businesses, freelancers, and organisations.

  • Build solidarity across South East London by collaborating with like-minded groups to support wellbeing, creativity, and collective resilience.

Advocacy & Change

  • Stand up for culture by advocating for policies that protect and support grassroots music and community spaces at local, regional, and national levels.

  • Support co-operative and community-owned models by championing fairer, more democratic ways of organising work and resources.

  • Help grow the co-operative cultural sector by sharing knowledge, supporting new initiatives, and working collaboratively within our local area.

Our core values were co-written with our members, and reflect the principles that we believe a community owned music venue should uphold. These values form the core of our organisational ethics and will inform the choices we make throughout the lifetime of Sister Midnight.

01

Rooted in Lewisham

We champion our local creatives, businesses, and scenes, because we want everyone in our community to benefit from the cultural value we collectively generate.

02

Music Without Barriers

Live music belongs to everyone. We listen, learn, and take action to ensure that everyone can participate, and this work never stops.

03

Here to stay

We’re building something that lasts. We’re embedding financial, environmental, and structural sustainability to create a resilient, thriving space for future generations.

04

Community as Practice

Community thrives through action. We build it through collaboration, mutual respect, and solidarity, and empower our members to share in this collective responsibility.

05

Creativity for Change

Music is a tool for resistance and transformation. The stage is a place to spark dialogue, uplift marginalised voices, and imagine better futures.

06

Risk with Purpose

We intentionally back bold ideas, untested talent and new ways of working, because meaningful change has never come from playing it safe.

We're on a mission to create the first community owned music venue in Lewisham Borough. We've secured a site for our venue in a former working mens club in the heart of Catford Town Centre.
